Changes to the length of School Day

Change to Length of School Day

On behalf of the Governors, I am writing to inform you of a change in the length of the school day from September 2022.

The reasons for this are:

  • DfE guidance published in March 2022 states that: -

From September 2022, all state-funded schools are expected to publish their opening times on their school website.

From spring 2023, all state-funded schools are expected to submit the length of their school week via the spring collection of the school census.

By September 2023 at the latest, all state-funded, mainstream schools will be expected to provide a compulsory school week of at least 32.5 hours.

As we are coming out of the COVID staggered timing, I thought it may be a good time to align our working day to 32.5 hours from September 2022 rather than wait until September 2023.

  • The current school day is 6 hours 13 minutes long (8.58 to 3.15).

Therefore, from September 2022 the school day will run from 8.50am to 3.20pm

Attendance Letters

As you are aware COVID and Lockdown have had an impact on children’s education and we have tried to be as understanding as possible for absences and any requested leave of absence.

However, as we moved out of COVID restriction and a more settled school life, we need to return to our Attendance policy and procedures. We return to promoting positive attendance and formally monitoring those pupils who fall below our expected thresholds.

You will be receiving a letter that outlines our new Attendance procedures as well as your child’s attendance for this academic year. This will highlight your child’s current attendance percentage and which Zone this falls within. If your child’s attendance falls into the Red Zone their attendance will be monitored from the beginning of the new school year in September 2022.
