Year 1 Handwriting

Below are 10 handwriting tasks that you can print out and practise with your child at home. If you do not have a printer your child could use their index finger to trace over the letters on the screen or copy them on to lined paper at home. It is important for all lower case letters to start on the line.
The end of year handwriting objectives for year one children are to:
  • sit correctly at a table, holding a pencil comfortably and correctly
  • begin to form lower-case letters in the correct direction, starting and finishing in the right place (Tasks 1-10)
  • form capital letters (Tasks 6-8)
  • form digits 0-9 (Task 8)
  • understand which letters belong to which handwriting ‘families’ (ie letters that are formed in similar ways) and to practise these. (Tasks 1-5)
