North of the Tyne, Under the Stars
The pupils within Year 4 will be taking part on Wednesday 2 March 2022 in a fun creative workshop
linking to an arts project called North of the Tyne, Under the Stars.
The session in school is a one-off activity where a creative facilitator will engage the pupils in the tale of a mysterious and magical visitor, a Story-Weaver, who has been called down from the stars to travel the region of the North of the Tyne. The Story-Weaver will be visiting North Shields, Wallsend, Hexham, Blyth, Byker & Fenham to engage local people in her alchemy through our schools’ programme and then a beautiful event in the local park. We are working with Year 4 children across the regions over the next couple of weeks.
The goal of the schools’ sessions is to explore the things which define the spirit of North of the Tyne, and create a spontaneous, piece of creative writing. Each pupil will come away with their own constellation and accompanying story, which will be displayed in local libraries as part of an exhibition of the imagination.
You will be able to see your child’s work in Fenham Library between the dates of 5 March and 14 March.
Please check with the library for their opening times.
As well as this session happening within the school with your child, we would like to invite you and your
wider family to the event happening as part of this project in Nuns Moor Park on Friday 4 & Saturday 5
March. This is a free family event which has been commissioned by North of the Tyne Combined
Authority. Come & enjoy a fire installation and the appearance of a larger than life Story-Weaver. There will also be a Festival Finale event at the end of the project which will be Thurs 10 – Sun 13 March, 6:30pm – 10:00pm within Newcastle City Centre.
We really hope that your child enjoys being a part of the session and we look forward to welcoming you
to your local event in Nuns Moor Park.
Within the sessions we will be taking a few photographs which may feature on our website and social
media channels for promotional purposes. Please do inform your child’s teacher if this is something you
would not be comfortable with happening.
With best wishes,
